SOUTH BAY FAMILY YMCA GRANTS WISH FOR CHULA VISTA VETERANS HOME RESIDENTS

Chula Vista, CA — The South Bay Family YMCA will be celebrating a new partnership with the Chula Vista Veterans Home on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 (St. Patrick’s Day) at 9:00am. The Chula Vista Veterans Home residents longed for a pool that they could swim and relax in.

On March 17th, 2009 at 9:00am, YMCA staff, YMCA Active Adults, members, participants and members of the military will be welcoming twelve Veterans from the Chula Vista Veterans Home to the South Bay Family YMCA, located at 1201 Paseo Magda, Chula Vista, CA 91910 for a morning of swimming, exercise and refreshments. All are welcome to attend.

This event kicks off a long term partnership, where the South Bay Family YMCA will receive the Veterans every Tuesday morning from 9:00am-11:00am and every Thursday afternoon from 12:00pm-2:00pm. There is no current cost to the Chula Vista Veterans Home for this service from the South Bay Family YMCA.

“My Aquatics staff and I are ecstatic to welcome Veterans from the Chula Vista Veterans Home to our pool. As a wife of an active duty military member (who is currently deployed), I know how important these folks are to our community,” stated Briana Quinn, Aquatics Coordinator.

Located on a 30-acre site off Telegraph Canyon Road, adjacent to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, the Veterans Home of California, Chula Vista (VHC-Chula Vista), is the only veterans home located in coastal, urban Southern California. With views of the Pacific Ocean and downtown San Diego, VHC-Chula Vista’s location provides residents with numerous cultural and recreational opportunities. Completed in May 2000, VHC-Chula Vista is a 400-bed long-term care facility providing options for Domiciliary - Independent Living, Licensed Residential, and Skilled Nursing Care. Veterans desiring to be considered for membership must be residents of California, age 62 or older (or younger if disabled), and have served honorably.

The South Bay Family YMCA is dedicated to improving the quality of human life and to helping all people realize their fullest potential as children of God through the development of the spirit, mind and body.
