well, here it is, Monday the 23rd of June. I'm a little behind in publishing this blog, but I'll try to get current before to much time passes.
The delegates have been here for 3 days, and they have already accomplished so much. Upon arriving on Saturday (they were a half hour late, our bus from La Mesa broke down halfway through the trip and all the boys had to transfer themselves, and their luggage onto the other 4 busses), they registered, received their room assignments, informational packet and t-shirt, and were told to stow their gear in their rooms, have breakfast and start studing for the bar examination.
At 10:30 on Saturday morning, all 945 or so boys who were here received an orientation program, informing them about what was going to be transpiring over the next week. At 2:30 they attended their first City Meeting, where the got to know the other residents of their city and their counselor. They then reviewed the Rules of Boys State and the Manual of Government. Just an hour later, they started taking the Bar Exam (due to the number of potential lawyers, and limited space, we have have of the delegates take the exam at 3:30 and the other half at 4:30). Most of the Exam takers freaked out when they saw that there were 196 blanks on the answer sheet. (Can't figure out why. They had 25 minutes for the exam.) Any way, the exam is actually a little over a hundred questions.
That Evening, they got to meet the Boys State Staff, and learn what was expected of them.
Upon returning from the Orientation Program, those who wished to run for a City Office circulated and filed their nomination petitions, before turning in around midnight (even though lights-out is at 11:00)
I'll get to Sunday shortly. |
